Well, I don’t know about how aligned my chakras became after a week in the high desert of Joshua Tree National Park, but I do know I fell even deeper in love with my soul’s sweet companion, my cherished Zengirl during that time. It was a most blissful week of going to the park, walking, climbing and photographing. Didn’t make art while I was there, per see, but upon my return there’s been a fairly high output of pieces. I even started a new blog, New Art Photographic, which features a less overtly psychedelic, although still pretty cool, collection of some of that work.
The pieces in this post have also been displayed there. These trippy, tribal-like slabs of consciousness altering color and form are the result of that week. Walking in Joshua Tree is a spiritual experience. It’s like walking meditation in a way. There is a silence that is beyond quiet in the high desert in the winter. No sound whatsoever. Nada. Nothing. Unless the wind is blowing. The rocks are, of course, ancient and they certainly impose that feeling on one’s mind. Especially Zengirl’s and my mind. The emptiness, the way the flat plain stretches out to the surrounding hills evokes a very “walking with spirits” feel. This is a place for vision quests. For dropping a tab and exploring the inner world through the outer. A place to cleanse the soul and consciousness of all that debris that piles up inside us during the course of day-to-day living in the modern world. A place to go in search of something or yourself.
For those that haven’t, I would highly recommend a trip to this amazing place. But, in the meantime, here’s a bit of visual cortex stimulation for aligning your chakras, meditating with or just grooving on… what ever you feel like doing…
Otherwordly, trippy… and quite the tribal feel. Almost like bones, or antlers in a strange way. Third eye and throat chakra blues.
Like shaman ghost dancers out on desert plain stirring up the magick. I don’t know where that orange came from, but I’m glad it showed up.
Yummy, like sugar coated peyote snowflakes. Electric desert indeed.
As always, your comments, mad ravings, outright hostility and criticism are all welcome here. The small, but devoted staff at the Square love to have your insights read aloud before nap time each day, so share what you got.
Yours in subtle subversion and outright anarchy,
All my love to my most treasured and beautiful soulmate, the ever wondrous Zengirl for all she gives of herself to this man.
