Back from a little overnight break from what seems to have become a complex and challenging life recently, lol. A much needed escape from a typical day with some dear friends. The el Rancho is the home and spiritual sanctuary of my soul mate brother, Sanchez. It’s a wonderful cabin/Zen lodge that lays a few hundred yards from Lake Michigan by South Haven, Michigan. The place has an energy that is quite special. Huge dunes on the western horizon, between the cabin and the lake and forest all around. Truly a sanctuary and escape. A place to go a be restored.
It’s also the home of our annual Tequila Rebellion and Gathering of the Tribe. A yearly event we’ve been carrying on now for 16 years in which all our friends gather at the el Rancho for a 3-4 day weekend of camping out and enjoying life. The Tequila Rebellion denotes that we drink tequila and tequila inspired drinks (like margaritas) during this event. I could go on and on about all the ritual, love and joy that is this event, but then I’d have to invite you and well, there’s only so much room. And besides, this is really about the images.
So while away at the el Rancho, I walked out the backdoor of the cabin and wandered a bit snapping off some pics before my camera battery decided it had had enough. Not many pics to work with but the results are quite special to me. Quite the psychedelic inspired visions. Colors and tones vary and as such, so does the mood of the pieces.
But let’s get into the work, here’s the first, based on a simple photograph the ground cover…
Intricate lines… a web of color. Hieroglyphics. Totem-like structures. Loving the intensity of the orange, yellow and red against that blue. This one is quite nice for clicking on it and blowing it up big to see all the intricacies provided by Mammy Nature and the Little Goddess. There’s a beautiful meditation focus to this one.
And wrap your head around this one… visual cortex stimulation and chakra vibrations…
Feather like feeling and what appears to be some kind of Native American shield? An owl? An eagle? There is a very organic feel to that center as well there should be considering the source photograph was of a stack of logs. I really like those bright colors an trippy patterns that surround the “shield” area. A peyote vision? Perhaps. Or maybe the third eye/crown chakra opening to receive the infinite. Or maybe, just maybe, a cool visual buffet for dreaming of past lives. You decide.
And the randomness continues… same subject matter as above, but from a different angle which results in a totally different feel and mood. Delicious and soft. Winter? Perhaps…
Soft and winter like to me. Very tribal, very Native American to my eyes. Almost an animal skin like feel. Totem like, shamanic figures playing along the axises. I do love the subtlety in color of this one. Not eye popping DMT, but rather a smoother, more natural vision.
And finally, this one… Another web of intricate lines. This time the dominate color is purple… high chakra meditation tool…
Intricate and very totem like. Ghosts along the axises. Symbols and hieroglyphics. Animal faces and the glow of the purple and blue weave. Another one good for blowing up big and just meditating on that center point.
As is always the case, your thoughts, insights and opinions are most welcomed so feel free to dispense them.
Yours in creative subversion,
P.S. All my love and gratitude to the woman without whom none of this would have ever happened… my love, my soul’s sweet mate, Zengirl.
