“The Blue Traveler” An I Ching and Chakra based art piece

Returning to this series of work after a short break. Here’s the Blue Traveler. Blue is the color of the throat chakra and is associated with finding our authentic voice, of speaking truth through verbalization. It is also often associated with creativity and the ability for self expression. If the throat chakra is out of balance, a person may experience difficulty communicating verbally, fear, doubt or uncertainty along with a poor learning ability.

This Traveler, like the others in the series uses the colors of the chakras along with trigrams of the I Ching. The light blue circle at the center of the piece is embedded with the eight trigrams of the I Ching. The metallic flavored pieces are all gradients of black and white and for me, represent the yin and yang energies. This traveler has but one “eye” and a very wide “mouth”. Appropriate, considering the chakra, don’t you think?

I am really loving this series of explorations into these futuristic, metaphysical robots. When seen all together, in a row, they really do convey different “personalities” even though they are made from the same elements.

Here’s the Blue Traveler. Original size is 15″x30″.

The trigrams at the bottom of the piece are, from left to right, Mountain and Lake. They are infused with a gradient of chakra colors running from the green of the heart chakra to the blue of the throat chakra and into the indigo of the third eye chakra. When these two trigrams are combined they create four different hexagrams. Lets take a look at what they create.
